Adult Faith Formation

Faith Formation for Adults

Continuing the Lifelong Jurney of Faith

At the Cathedral, our mission is to follow the way of our Lord Jesus Christ as faithful disciples. We invite each man, woman, and child in our parish to begin the transformation from Church member by convention to Christian disciple by conviction. All genuine, Catholic reformation begins here: personal conversion to the Lord Jesus and fidelity to His Gospel. With Jesus and the Sacraments of the Church as our center, our goal is to encourage every parishioner of the Cathedral to enter a path of following Christ through serious discipleship formation, spiritual growth, and Christian community. From Catholic Scripture study groups to book clubs, the Cathedral's Adult Enrichment Ministry assists adults during their spiritual journey.

Faith is faith precisely because we do not know, yet still believe. Recall Jesus' words to Thomas after the Resurrection: "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe" (John 20:29). Faith is not exclusively an intellectual exercise. Faith thrusts us into a lifelong and ongoing relationship with God. Even people engaged in deep, intimate human relationships wonder at times. But a couple can actually grow closer, their love deepen and mature, after struggling through doubts. Our doubts can be catalysts toward a deeper relationship and closer union with God.

Lifelong formation is an integrated journey of the entire Catholic community in response to our baptismal call to holiness as members of the Body of Christ. The journey of lifelong formation:

  • Flows from the celebration of Sunday liturgy that inspires faithful living through proclamation of the Scriptures and nourishment in the Eucharist;
  • Embraces the mission of Jesus Christ through a moral life of conversion, transformation, and discipleship in, with, and through Jesus Christ;
  • Is a growing awareness of God's self-revelation and our response, which often begins within a supportive environment of family and parish, and which draws one more deeply into relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church;
  • Seeks to understand and live the story and mission of Jesus, placing the Truths and Tradition of the Catholic Faith at the service of the common good;
  • Deepens the relationship with Jesus Christ through personal and communal prayer, leading one to embrace life with the mind and heart of Jesus Christ;
  • Expresses itself in a life of caring for others, especially the most vulnerable, and working for justice for, and in solidarity with, the oppressed and marginalized;
  • Promotes a missionary spirit which inspires the faithful to evangelize inactive Catholics, alienated Catholics, and those without a faith community.
